No More Long Ads on YouTube: This Country Has Passed a New Law, Users Rejoice

The Vietnamese government has brought relief to people frustrated by long ads on YouTube. A new law has been enacted that requires all ads longer than 5 seconds to have a skip option.

Everyone is annoyed by long ads on YouTube. You're watching your favorite video, and suddenly a 30-second ad pops up. You can't skip it, and you don't want to watch it. Many people used to install ad blockers to avoid this, but now YouTube doesn't allow ad blockers. The only option left is YouTube Premium, which allows you to watch videos without ads. Now, one country has passed a law to change this.

Vietnam Makes Users Happy

Vietnam has enacted a law that prohibits unskippable ads longer than 5 seconds on YouTube and other online platforms. This means every platform must provide a skip option for ads longer than 5 seconds. This law will apply to video ads as well as moving images. Static ads will also have to provide a skip option. This law will come into effect on February 15th.

Users are Happy

Users are very happy with this decision by the Vietnamese government. People from other countries are also commenting on Reddit, saying that they want a similar law in their countries. Currently, users have very little control over watching videos for free and are subject to the arbitrary practices of YouTube and other platforms.

Ads are Necessary for YouTube

While this law from Vietnam brings relief to users, it's also important to understand that ads are necessary for YouTube. Ads are what keeps YouTube free to use, and they also provide creators with an opportunity to earn money. However, YouTube's increasing reliance on long and unskippable ads not only disrupts video viewing but also degrades the user experience.
