AI Features in Phones: In India, people are now prioritizing AI features over camera quality and battery life when buying a new phone. A new report reveals that approximately 89 percent of consumers are making their purchase decisions based on AI capabilities. This signifies that AI features are now attracting customers more than battery performance or other traditional specifications. The report suggests that consumers are shifting from making specification-based upgrade decisions to making experience-based choices. This is precisely why mobile manufacturers have begun integrating increasingly sophisticated AI features into their smartphones.
AI Features Emerge as the Deciding Factor
According to a report by Flipkart and Counterpoint Research, Artificial Intelligence has now become a core factor in smartphone selection. Nearly 89 percent of people are basing their phone-buying decisions on the availability of AI features. AI is gradually carving out a significant space in our lives, with its applications now ranging from voice assistance to content creation and personalization. Notably, consumers are paying close attention to AI features even within the mid-range segment—specifically for phones priced between ₹15,000 and ₹20,000. People are increasingly gravitating toward AI features, favoring them over other traditional "premium" specifications.
How is AI Being Utilized?
AI features within phones are being utilized in a variety of ways. While Gen Z users are leveraging AI primarily for content creation and entertainment, Millennials are utilizing it to enhance productivity and planning. As for women, they are using AI features to assist with daily chores and to address their lifestyle-related needs.
People Willing to Pay for Looks and Aesthetics
The report also reveals that 64 percent of users prefer colorful devices. If people can find a phone featuring their preferred color and material, they are willing to pay up to 5 percent extra for it. This trend is particularly observed among Gen Z, women, and customers in Tier-2 cities.
AI Has Enhanced Smartphones
With the advent of AI, smartphones have significantly improved and now feature various tools designed to optimize both performance and battery life. For photography enthusiasts, features such as "Camera Coach" have emerged, helping users capture photos that rival those taken by professional photographers.
