A new feature is coming for WhatsApp users: chat history. This will allow recently sent messages in a group to be shared, enabling new members to catch up on the ongoing conversation.

WhatsApp is introducing a special feature to make its platform more convenient. This feature will allow users to share chat history within group conversations. This will enable users to show other members recent chats, improving communication and maintaining transparency within the group. Information about this upcoming feature comes from a report by WABetaInfo, which tracks upcoming WhatsApp features.

The report states that WhatsApp's 2.26.1.28 Android beta update is available on the Google Play Store. This update reveals the group chat history sharing feature. It allows users to share recent chats within a group. Testing has begun, and some beta users have already started receiving support for this feature.

Looking at the screenshot above, the chat history feature is available in WhatsApp groups. It offers options to share between 25 and 100 messages. Users can select the number of messages they want to share. WhatsApp collects messages from the last 14 days and compiles them into a history format.

With this feature, new group members will no longer need to search for old messages to understand the ongoing conversation. They can simply check the history to catch up on the discussion. This will give group members more control over the app and the group.

Option Available When Adding New Members

The report further states that WhatsApp's group history feature will be available when adding a new group member, where users will have to choose the number of messages to share. The selected messages will then be sent to the new group member and will be highlighted. This will help differentiate between old and recent messages.

Messages Will Remain Secure

The WABetaInfo report also states that the messages sent via chat history will be fully end-to-end encrypted. To read these messages, you will need to enter encryption keys. Without them, not a single message can be read.

When will it be released?

As we mentioned above, WhatsApp's chat history feature is currently being tested. It is speculated that this feature could be rolled out to stable users at the end of February or the beginning of March.
