WhatsApp is rolling out a series of new features to enhance the privacy and calling experience for its millions of users. Previously, the company introduced a feature to silence calls from unknown numbers, and now it is taking things a step further. With an upcoming feature, when a call comes in from an unknown number, WhatsApp will be able to ask the caller the reason for their call.

Users will then be able to read a transcript of the caller's response and decide whether the call is important or if it is a spam/unwanted call. According to recent reports, this feature is currently under development for the Android app.

This new feature could become part of WhatsApp’s call-filtering system. However, it is not yet available even to beta testers, and the company has not announced an official release date.

Three Call-Filtering Options
Reports indicate that the call-filtering menu within WhatsApp’s privacy section may be updated with new options, offering users three choices:

The first option is 'Never'.

Selecting this will disable call filtering entirely, and all calls will come through as usual.

The second option is 'Silence'.

Choosing this will mute the ringtone for calls from unknown numbers, though the call details will still appear in the 'Calls' tab and in your notifications.

The third option is 'Ask reason for calling'.

When selected, WhatsApp will prompt the caller—if they are calling from an unknown number—to state the reason for their call. Once a response is provided, the user can decide whether to answer or decline the call.

Access to Call Transcripts
Furthermore, the feature will provide a text transcript of the caller's response. This will allow users to determine whether a call is for an important matter or simply an unsolicited call from an unknown person, all without having to answer the call directly.
