New Features on WhatsApp: Transferring Chats Between Android and iOS Just Got Easier; Two Accounts Now Work on iPhone Too..
On Thursday, WhatsApp announced a set of new features aimed at enhancing cross-platform functionality, organization, and usability. According to the Meta-owned instant messaging app, new tools are being introduced to manage storage, transfer chats between Android and iOS devices, and improve conversations through AI features. iPhone users can now also run two accounts on a single device—a functionality that was previously available only on Android.
WhatsApp's New Features
Most notable among the new features is the improvement made to the cross-platform chat transfer feature. In a blog post, WhatsApp explained that, in addition to transfers within the same ecosystem, the app now facilitates the transfer of conversations from iOS to Android, or vice versa. Users can transfer their account details, personal and group chats, communities, WhatsApp Channel updates, chat history, and call history.
Furthermore, this tool will also transfer their photos and videos to their new device.
Storage management has also seen improvements. WhatsApp now allows users to manually locate and delete large files directly within individual chats. This option—accessible by tapping on a chat's name and selecting 'Manage Storage'—makes it easier to free up storage space without having to delete the entire conversation. Users can also choose to delete only media files while preserving their chat history.
WhatsApp is also introducing the ability to use two accounts on iOS. This feature was previously available exclusively on Android. According to the blog post, users can now log in to two separate accounts on a single iPhone, making it easier to manage work and personal chats. The app will display the user's profile picture in the bottom tab to indicate which account is currently active.
The platform now also includes improved AI-powered features. WhatsApp stated that users can utilize Meta AI to edit photos directly within a chat interface before sending them. This includes removing unwanted objects, changing backgrounds, or applying different styles.
Meanwhile, the 'Writing Help' feature has also been enhanced to suggest responses based on the context of the conversation. According to WhatsApp, this will help users easily craft replies while maintaining their privacy. Meta states that these new WhatsApp features are now being rolled out and will become available to all users in the coming weeks.
