New AI Feature Coming to WhatsApp! Interact Directly with Third-Party AI Agents in Chats
A new AI feature is expected to arrive on WhatsApp soon. Several media reports have already surfaced detailing this upcoming feature. Let’s take a look at how it will work.
WhatsApp is a widely used messaging platform in the country, where people share photos and videos alongside text messages. Meta frequently introduces new features to enhance the user experience. In the realm of Artificial Intelligence, users are gaining access to new features that simplify their tasks, and WhatsApp is now set to join this trend with its own new AI feature.
According to media reports, the company is developing a feature that will allow users to interact with third-party AI agents and bots directly within WhatsApp, eliminating the need to open separate AI apps or websites.
New ‘Agents’ Section May Appear in Settings
According to WABetaInfo, a WhatsApp feature tracker, indications of this feature have been spotted in the Android WhatsApp Beta version 2.26.35.3. The report suggests that a new ‘Agents’ section could appear within the app’s settings.
This section will enable users to add and manage AI services compatible with WhatsApp. Users will also have the option to set a name and profile photo for each agent, making it easier to distinguish between different AI agents.
Up to Five AI Agents Can Be Linked to One Account
Reports indicate that WhatsApp may allow users to link up to five AI agents to a single account, enabling the use of different agents for various needs. An API key will play a crucial role in the process of connecting an agent to WhatsApp. Once the user configures the agent, WhatsApp will generate an API key. This key must then be entered into the service hosting the AI agent to establish a connection between the AI service and the WhatsApp chat.
Removing the Agent Will Also Be Easy
Users will be able to manage their connected AI agents via WhatsApp Settings. Options to modify the agent’s name or profile photo, as well as to remove the agent entirely, are expected to be available. Removing an agent will terminate its WhatsApp connection, though the history of past conversations with that agent might remain saved within the app. Consequently, if a user wishes to do so later, they could reconnect the service by setting it up again using a new API key.
Each AI Agent Will Have a Separate Chat
Notably, the most interesting aspect of this feature is that separate chat threads may appear in WhatsApp for each connected AI agent. This means users won’t need to switch to a different app to chat with the AI.
Additionally, reports indicate that the agent will not have access to the user’s other WhatsApp chats, contacts, or media files. This helps alleviate concerns regarding the privacy of personal data.
No Official Announcement Yet
It is worth noting that this feature is currently in the testing phase. While WhatsApp may roll it out to a wider user base in the coming months, the company has not yet set a specific date for the launch. If this feature is released on a large scale, WhatsApp could evolve beyond being just a messaging app into an accessible platform for connecting with various AI services.
