The need to repeatedly visit service centers for Aadhaar-related tasks is diminishing. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has announced that the new Aadhaar App has crossed the milestone of 40 million (4 crore) downloads. This app enables users to access various essential Aadhaar-related services directly from their smartphones.

According to the government, 4.9 million (49 lakh) mobile numbers, 1.165 million (11.65 lakh) addresses, and 1.25 million (12.5 lakh) email addresses have been updated via the new app so far. Additionally, the biometric lock/unlock feature has been utilized over 19.1 million (1.91 crore) times.

**New Aadhaar App Replaces mAadhaar**
The government launched this new app on January 28, 2026. It was introduced as a next-generation digital identity platform to eliminate the need for people to carry physical photocopies of their Aadhaar cards.

This app has replaced the older mAadhaar App. For the past few months, UIDAI has been urging users to switch to the new Aadhaar App. It is available on both Android and iPhone (iOS) platforms.

**What features does the new Aadhaar App offer?**
The new app simplifies various essential Aadhaar-related tasks in one place. Key features include:

**Face ID Authentication:** Secure login using facial recognition.

**QR-based Contact Card:** An option to securely share your contact details.

**Biometric Control:** Lock or unlock your fingerprint/iris data with a single click.

**Selective Data Sharing:** You decide exactly how much Aadhaar information to share with others.

**Multiple Profiles:** Add Aadhaar profiles for up to five family members on a single phone.

**Easy Updates:** Facility to update mobile numbers, home addresses, and email addresses.

**e-Aadhaar:** Instantly download and save your digital Aadhaar card on your phone. Free Aadhaar Document Update Facility Extended
The UIDAI has offered another major benefit to citizens. The deadline for the free online Aadhaar document update service has been extended by a full year. According to an official memorandum, you can now update and verify your proof of identity and address documents on the Aadhaar portal without any additional charges until June 14, 2027, instead of June 15, 2026.

What are the rules for updating mobile numbers and addresses?
Mobile Number: If your old mobile number is already linked to your Aadhaar and you still have access to it, you can easily update it via the new Aadhaar app. However, if you have lost your old number or never registered one, you must visit a nearby 'Aadhaar Seva Kendra' to get your number linked.
Home Address: You can also change your address via the app. The UIDAI has introduced a facility to update the address through the 'Head of Family'. Under this rule, if one family member has the correct address recorded in their Aadhaar, they can approve address update requests for other family members via the new Aadhaar app.

Save ₹75 on Email Updates
A new feature for updating email addresses via the Aadhaar app went live on July 1, 2026. The government has announced that the ₹75 fee for email updates made through the Aadhaar app will be completely waived until December 31, 2026.
