Neuralink: Brain chips and robotic surgery – learn about Elon Musk's 'Neuralink' master plan..

 Social media

Elon Musk's brain-computer interface company, Neuralink, is now entering a new and crucial phase of its work. Musk announced on the social media platform X that the company is preparing to begin mass production of brain implants by 2026.  They also plan to largely automate the surgical procedure.

Future Plans
Until now, Neuralink devices have only been implanted in a limited number of people for trials. According to Musk, mass production will begin in 2026. Their goal is for hundreds, and eventually thousands, of patients to benefit from this technology.

What does Neuralink do?
Founded in 2016, Neuralink is developing a special chip that is implanted directly into the human brain. This chip interprets signals from the brain and translates them into commands for computers or digital devices. The coin-sized chip is connected to the brain via extremely thin threads.

Surgery to become easier
Musk wants to simplify not only production but also the surgical procedure. He is working on a plan to make the surgery almost entirely robotic and automated by 2026. Currently, a small part of the skull needs to be removed to implant the device, but in the future, the operation will be possible without removing any part of the skull. The plan is to insert the threads directly through the dura mater, the protective layer of the brain, making the surgery safer.

How have the trials gone so far?
After receiving approval from the US, Neuralink began human trials in 2024. So far, the implant has been placed in 12 people suffering from paralysis in different countries. Initial results show that patients have been able to control computers, use the internet, and play video games using only their thoughts. The company's main goal is to empower people with spinal cord injuries and other neurological problems to become more independent.

What are the plans? This year, Neuralink has raised $650 million in funding, clearly demonstrating investor confidence. Elon Musk believes that this technology will not only revolutionize treatment methods but will also pave the way for direct communication between humans and artificial intelligence (AI) in the future.
