**Impact on the Network**
Vodafone Idea and BSNL have agreed intra-circle and inter-circle roaming, allowing their customers to use each other's networks across different service areas. Both operators will also share network infrastructure, including telecom towers and optical fiber. BSNL and Vodafone Idea already have an intra-circle roaming agreement in Delhi and Mumbai, where BSNL customers use Vodafone Idea's network on a revenue-sharing basis. It is expected that this new agreement will extend this model to all telecom circles, providing consumers with better network connectivity. Currently, both Vodafone Idea and BSNL lag behind Jio and Airtel in terms of network quality.

According to SEBI data, Jio currently has around 3.33 lakh towers nationwide, while Airtel has 2.92 lakh towers. Vodafone Idea possesses 1.90 lakh towers, and BSNL has 1.21 lakh towers. Once the two companies join forces, their combined network will reach a total of 3.11 lakh towers. A significant disparity is also evident regarding fiber infrastructure; Vodafone Idea has laid 1.65 lakh kilometers of fiber cable, whereas Jio has 10 lakh kilometers and Airtel has 5.50 lakh kilometers.

Market experts point out that the government holds a significant stake in both Vodafone Idea and BSNL. Consequently, avoiding the duplication of network infrastructure between these two companies is a prudent decision. The government is the sole owner of BSNL and holds a 49% stake in Vodafone Idea. This collaboration between the two companies is expected to yield further benefits, as the government stands to gain directly from the arrangement.
