Meta launched its AI assistant, Muse, in September. The company is now adding a new feature that will allow users to engage in real-time conversations with the AI. This feature, called 'Muse Voice,' works in tandem with Meta’s 'Muse Realtime Avatar,' enabling the AI assistant to display facial expressions and hand gestures during interactions.

According to Meta, Muse Voice is currently being rolled out in the United States, with plans to expand to other markets soon. The Muse AI assistant was first launched in the U.S. in September and later became available in Canada. However, due to regional app store restrictions, it is currently not accessible outside of these countries.

How to interact using Meta Muse Voice

Meta has announced that Muse Voice is being rolled out across mobile, web, and Mac platforms. Users who have received the update can initiate a conversation by tapping the phone icon within the app.

Users can choose from three different modes to interact with Muse: a face-to-face, video-call-style interaction; an AI avatar displayed alongside the chat interface; or an audio-only mode without any avatar.

Once a conversation begins, the user’s customized Muse avatar will appear on the screen. Meta states that the avatar will exhibit expressions and gestures that align with the mood and tone of the conversation. Users can also interrupt the AI while it is responding to interject with their own comments. This experience supports real-time, fluid conversation, similar to Google’s Gemini Live.

Users can choose their preferred voice and style

Meta also offers users the ability to customize the voice and style of Muse Voice, with hundreds of options available to choose from.

The company has confirmed that Muse Voice will eventually be integrated into Meta AI glasses and the upcoming 'Muse Charm' device; however, no specific timeline for this has been shared.

How does Muse differ from Meta’s AI chatbot?
According to Meta, Muse is distinct from the standard AI chatbots found on its platforms, such as WhatsApp. It includes features like agentic AI capabilities, animated avatars, and long-term memory.

While the memory of a standard Meta AI chatbot is limited to a single session, Muse can retain information from conversations over a longer period. Its agentic features allow users to go beyond simply asking questions—they can also have the AI perform various tasks.
