With WhatsApp’s new 'Guest Calling' feature, individuals without a WhatsApp account can now join video calls. Learn how it works and how many people can participate in a single call.

WhatsApp users can now invite people who do not have a WhatsApp account to join voice and video calls. The company has introduced a 'Guest Calling' feature, which allows individuals to join a call without needing to create an account or download the app. To do this, they simply need to open the call link in a web browser on their computer.

How does the WhatsApp 'Guest Calling' feature work?

To use this feature, open WhatsApp, go to the 'Calls' tab, and tap the plus (+) icon. You will see an option to create a call link. Share this link with the person you wish to speak with. The recipient can open the link, enter their name, and request to join the call. They will be able to participate only after the person who initiated the call grants them permission.

Please note that a WhatsApp account is required to create the link. Individuals without an account can join the call via a web browser on a computer; currently, the 'Guest Calling' feature is not available on mobile browsers.

Up to 32 participants in a single call

According to WhatsApp, this feature supports up to 32 participants in a single call. The calls are free and have no time limits. Participants also have access to features such as screen sharing, reacting with emojis, and using the 'raise hand' option.

The company states that 'Guest Calls' are protected by end-to-end encryption. Guests cannot view other participants' phone numbers, send messages, or add new people to the call. The person who initiated the call has the authority to remove guests from the session.

This feature is particularly useful for those who need to join important meetings, educational sessions, or conversations but prefer not to create a WhatsApp account. However, the feature is being rolled out gradually, so not all users may see this option immediately.
