Major Update from India Post: Superfast Parcel Service Launched in 6 Cities, Parcels to Now Arrive Within 24 Hours..
India Post has announced the launch of a new express service. This new service has been named '24 Speed Post' and is set to commence on March 17, 2026. The service will be inaugurated in Delhi by the Government of India's Minister of Communications, Jyotiraditya Scindia; under this initiative, parcels will now be delivered within just 24 hours. This service is specifically designed for individuals who wish to send their urgent parcels and documents quickly and reliably.
**24 Speed Post Service**
The new '24 Speed Post' service guarantees the delivery of parcels within a stipulated timeframe—specifically, within 24 hours. Additionally, the Department of Posts is launching another service called '48 Speed Post.' Under this scheme, parcels will be delivered within two days. Consequently, people will now have the option to choose a delivery service—either 24-hour or 48-hour—based on their specific requirements.
**Launch in 6 Cities**
This new express delivery service is initially being rolled out in six major cities across India. These include Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad. These cities were selected due to the high volume of parcel and document traffic they handle.
**SMS Tracking and OTP-based Delivery**
To enhance the security of the '24 Speed Post' service, several modern features have been incorporated. These include SMS tracking and OTP-based delivery. Upon delivery, the recipient will be provided with a One-Time Password (OTP). The parcel will be handed over to the recipient only after they provide this OTP to the delivery agent. This mechanism ensures that the parcel reaches the intended recipient exclusively. Furthermore, the sender will receive tracking updates via SMS, providing comprehensive information on their mobile device—including when the parcel was dispatched, its current location in transit, and its estimated time of delivery.
Additionally, this service will include a 'Buy Now, Pay Later' (BNPL) facility, enabling companies to dispatch parcels without having to make immediate payments. Furthermore, features such as free pickup for large shipments, API integration, and a centralized billing system will also be provided.
Money-Back Guarantee for Delays
Customers will also be offered a money-back guarantee if a parcel is not delivered within the stipulated timeframe. This means that if the service fails to meet its promised delivery schedule, the customer is entitled to a refund.
