Major facility from EPFO! Now check your PF balance, last 5 transactions, and claim status on WhatsApp in minutes..
The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has brought significant relief to millions of salaried employees across the country by making its services more accessible and transparent. According to reports, EPFO members no longer need to rely on complex web portals or mobile apps to check their PF balance, view their passbook, or track claim statuses. Through the organization's new WhatsApp service, account holders can receive real-time PF details on their registered mobile numbers simply by sending a message.
This move by the EPFO is a significant step towards 'Ease of Living' and digital governance, particularly benefiting employees who previously faced technical difficulties with web portals. Via the WhatsApp chatbot, members can now instantly receive live updates on their EPF account status, monthly contributions deposited by employers, and withdrawal claims—all without needing a login password.
EPFO's New Service
The retirement fund body, Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), announced the launch of a WhatsApp service for its members in a post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). The post stated, "EPFO is now on WhatsApp too! Join EPFO's official WhatsApp channel to receive important updates and useful information." The channel's description notes that it will provide updates regarding "official news, scheme alerts, and important announcements." Notably, by the time this report was written, 84,000 members had already joined EPFO's official WhatsApp channel. EPFO on WhatsApp: Key Features
For salaried individuals, the EPF serves as a government-backed, secure, long-term investment tool and a retirement savings option. The Ministry of Finance has approved an 8.25% interest rate on EPF and Voluntary PF (VPF) for FY26—the third consecutive time this rate has been approved.
These services are expected to provide 24/7 access, with automated systems handling basic account-related requests and frequently asked questions around the clock.
To initiate a conversation, members can type 'Hello' to EPFO's registered and 'tick-mark' verified WhatsApp number.
Members will be able to check their Provident Fund (PF) balance and view their last five transactions.
Members can also track the status of their EPF account claims and avail themselves of other essential services via the messaging platform.
Members can also opt to receive messages from EPFO on their registered mobile numbers.
Why a WhatsApp-based service for EPF members?
This initiative is expected to significantly reduce the need to visit EPFO offices and decrease reliance on customer care call centers. Notably, this move follows an announcement made in May by Union Minister for Labour and Employment Mansukh Mandaviya regarding plans to launch a WhatsApp-based chatbot service to handle user queries and basic account-related requests.
According to an ANI report, the objective is to enhance accessibility and improve member services. Mandaviya stated that the organization has taken several steps to minimize legal disputes and ensure the timely resolution of cases pending before various legal forums; the launch of the WhatsApp chatbot is one such measure.
According to the Minister, a key reason for launching the WhatsApp channel is that most EPFO members already have the messaging app installed and use it. He noted that local or regional languages could be used on this platform, making it easier for members to interact with EPFO in their own language. Additionally, the Ministry stated that another key area of focus would be members covered under the ‘Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana’ (PMVBRY) who are facing issues such as incomplete Aadhaar authentication or the inability to activate Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
