Major Changes Coming to WhatsApp: Chat Screen Set to Look Completely Different
A significant change could soon be coming to WhatsApp. The company is preparing to update the chat screen with a new ‘Liquid Glass’ design. This will make the app appear more modern, transparent, and fluid than ever before, thereby enhancing the user chatting experience. Let's take a closer look...
According to reports from WABetaInfo, WhatsApp may soon introduce a major visual overhaul for iOS users; the company is preparing to extend its new ‘Liquid Glass’ design to the chat screen. This design is said to be inspired by iOS 26. This update will render the chat interface more modern, transparent, and visually stunning, making the app feel smoother and more premium to use than ever before.
What Will Be the Biggest Change in This New Update?
The most significant change in this new update will be seen in the chat bar. Currently, the bar used for typing messages remains fixed to the bottom of the screen; however, in the new design, it will appear to float. Its background will be translucent—meaning slightly transparent—and will dynamically adapt based on the content displayed behind it. Furthermore, the small button used to jump to the latest message will also feature this same ‘Liquid Glass’ aesthetic. Additionally, the navigation bar located at the top of the chat screen will no longer feature a solid color; instead, it will become transparent, creating a subtle "fade" effect that allows the background wallpaper and messages to remain faintly visible beneath it.
Why Haven't Users Received This New Feature Yet?
However, this design has not yet reached all users. According to WABetaInfo, the ‘Liquid Glass’ feature has not even been released to beta testers yet and currently exists only within the app's underlying code. The company began testing this feature in 2025—where it was first spotted in the tab bar and certain sections of the chat list—but its rollout has been quite slow, meaning the majority of users have yet to experience this new look.
What Is the Release Date?
Meta does not want to rush things this time around. The company's focus is to ensure that the entire app maintains a consistent look, rather than applying the new design to just a few specific sections; glimpses of this design have recently been spotted in the voice note player and WhatsApp Business as well. This is why the company is gradually updating every section; currently, however, a release date has not yet been announced.
