Major Changes Coming Soon to WhatsApp: Users to Get Access to More GIFs Than Ever Before

WhatsApp is soon set to introduce a new GIF provider called Klipy. Preparations are underway to roll out a new layout for this feature, enabling users to easily search for and find the GIFs of their choice.

WhatsApp is gearing up to implement a significant change aimed at enhancing the user experience. As part of this initiative, the platform will replace Tenor with Klipy as its GIF provider, allowing users to share these animated images with friends and family members. Plans are also being drafted to introduce a new layout specifically for this feature. This new interface will display 50 percent more GIFs, making it easier to search for specific files and reducing the need for excessive scrolling.

New GIF Provider Coming Soon

According to a report by WABetaInfo, the Android 2.26.21.7 beta update—currently available on the Google Play Store—will introduce Klipy GIFs to users, replacing the existing Tenor library. As of now, the company has not yet issued an official announcement regarding this update.

For your information, WhatsApp currently utilizes two platforms—GIPHY and Tenor—to power its GIF feature. GIPHY is renowned for its extensive GIF collection, while Tenor is popular among users for its fast and expressive GIF search capabilities; however, the messaging app allows for the use of only one GIF provider at a time.

Why Klipy?

The report indicates that Tenor recently announced it would be discontinuing its official API on July 1, 2026—a move that would have a direct impact on WhatsApp. It is believed that, in light of this announcement, the app has decided to onboard a new GIF provider.

Preparations to integrate Klipy support into WhatsApp are currently underway, and the feature is undergoing testing. It is expected that, in the coming days, support for this new GIF provider will gradually become available to all WhatsApp users.

WhatsApp CarPlay

Finally, it is worth noting that WhatsApp released its CarPlay feature last month—specifically in April. Support for this feature has been extended to iPhone users. Through this facility, users can check incoming WhatsApp messages and make calls while driving.

Prior to the arrival of CarPlay, users had to rely on Siri, which prevented drivers from viewing their chats. However, with the introduction of CarPlay, users can now read messages in addition to making calls while driving.
