Major change in WhatsApp! Now you can schedule messages, photos, and videos..
WhatsApp is preparing to introduce a new feature for its Android users. This feature will allow users to compose or select messages, photos, and videos and schedule them to be sent at a specific time. This means that whether you want to send birthday wishes, share important information, or post a message in a group, you won't need to be online at that exact moment; WhatsApp will automatically send the message at the scheduled time.
According to reports, the company is currently testing this feature with select Android beta users. A report by WABetaInfo indicates that this functionality is available to some users running WhatsApp Android beta version 2.26.40.7. It may be rolled out to more users in the coming weeks; however, the company has not yet announced a specific date for its general release to all users.
How will the message scheduling feature work?
Using this feature is expected to be simple. A user will need to go into a chat and compose their message. Then, they will need to long-press the send button. If the feature is available on their account, an option to select the date and time for sending the message should appear. Once the time is set, the message will be scheduled and automatically sent at the chosen time.
According to reports, users will be able to schedule links, photos, and videos in addition to text messages. However, there may be a limitation allowing only one photo or video to be scheduled at a time. Users will be able to edit photos and add captions before scheduling them.
Scheduling window: From 10 minutes to two weeks
It is reported that users will be able to schedule messages for a time ranging from a minimum of 10 minutes to a maximum of two weeks in the future. Notably, the app does not need to be open, nor does the phone need to be online, for the message to be sent at the scheduled time. This feature is expected to work in both private and group chats. However, scheduled messages may only be received by members who were present in the group at the time the message was scheduled. Members who join the group later are not expected to receive that message.
Option to delete the message before it is sent
Users may also get the option to view and delete scheduled messages within the chat details section. If a user deletes a message before it is sent, the recipient is not expected to be notified. According to reports, this feature may also include end-to-end encryption. Currently, this feature is being tested with select Android beta users. It may take a few weeks for it to reach general users.
