Major Change Coming to WhatsApp: This Feature Will Be Completely Transformed – Here's What You Need to Know
A major update is coming for WhatsApp users. Starting this July, WhatsApp is changing its GIF provider. The company will now be getting GIFs from Klipy instead of Tenor.
WhatsApp users will soon see a significant change. The GIFs currently available on WhatsApp are about to change. Not only will the GIFs themselves be different, but the way they are sent and displayed in chats will also be completely transformed. According to reports, this update will be implemented from July 1st this year, after which millions of WhatsApp users worldwide will be able to send GIFs in a new way.
What are GIFs and why is this change happening?
GIF stands for Graphics Interchange Format. It is a digital file format for images that supports static pictures and short, looping, and soundless animations. People frequently use GIFs on WhatsApp for chatting, just like emojis. Until now, a company called Tenor was providing GIFs to WhatsApp, but this company wants to discontinue its service, which is why WhatsApp had to find a new provider. According to reports, WhatsApp has chosen Klipy as its new GIF partner. Tenor's service is available until June 30, 2026. To avoid any inconvenience for users after the service ends, WhatsApp has already partnered with Klipy. The new provider's service will begin on July 1st.
WhatsApp has started testing
WhatsApp has started testing the GIFs from the new provider. These GIFs have been seen in version 26.2.10.70 of WhatsApp Beta for iOS, leading to speculation that the company will roll it out to all users by the June 30th deadline. In addition, WhatsApp also wants to change the way GIFs are searched on its platform. The GIF keyboard will now be displayed in three columns instead of two, making it easier for users to search.
