Jio CNAP: Jio will expose fake callers, displaying the real name as soon as a call comes in; new service launched..
To enhance telecom security in India, Reliance Jio has launched the Caller Name Presentation (CNAP) service. With this service, when a call comes from an unknown number, the caller's name will be displayed on the mobile screen – the same name that was registered with their Aadhaar or other KYC documents when they obtained the SIM card.
How is CNAP different from Truecaller?
The CNAP feature is completely different from Truecaller. Until now, people have relied on Truecaller to identify unknown numbers, but Truecaller only displays the name that the user has saved. CNAP, on the other hand, is based entirely on the official and verified database of the telecom operator. This will help eliminate fake names, spam tags, and misleading identities.
Where has the CNAP service been launched?
According to reports, Jio has launched the CNAP service in several states, including Bihar, UP East, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Punjab, Kerala, Assam, Jharkhand, and Odisha. Airtel, Vi, and BSNL are also rolling out this feature in different phases, which is to be implemented nationwide under the directives of TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India).
Along with CNAP, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has issued a warning regarding silent calls. It stated that such calls, where there is no voice, are made by scammers to check if a number is active. Therefore, the government has advised blocking such numbers immediately. These numbers can also be reported immediately on the Sanchar Saathi portal.
What are the advantages of CNAP?
CNAP can curb scammers and reduce users' fear of unknown calls. According to experts, CNAP can make the calling experience in India safer, more transparent, and more reliable than ever before.
