JIO 6G Network: 6G network to launch first in India; Jio to provide internet speeds 5 times faster..
Amid the rapid expansion of 5G networks in India, Reliance Jio—the country’s largest telecom company—has accelerated its preparations for 6G. Jio asserts that by 2030, when the world finalizes 6G standards, India will be among the first nations to roll out the technology. The company has already developed its 'pre-6G' stack and 'Giga MIMO' radio, which are currently being showcased at the India Mobile Congress 2026 in Delhi.
According to Jio, a 6G network could offer up to five times the capacity of existing 5G networks, while aiming to reduce latency by approximately tenfold. In simpler terms, the network will be able to handle significantly more data and a larger number of users simultaneously, with a drastic reduction in the time taken for a command to receive a response—all while delivering faster data speeds. This could prove highly beneficial for applications such as real-time AI, holographic video, and advancements in sectors like healthcare, education, and other emerging digital services.
Developing the country’s first 'Giga MIMO'
The 'Giga MIMO' radio showcased by Jio at the India Mobile Congress is a key component of these preparations; the company describes it as India’s first Giga MIMO radio. It is accompanied by a common baseband unit capable of supporting both 5G and 6G technologies. The race toward 6G is not merely about higher capacity or lower latency; active participation in defining global standards and developing the underlying technology is equally critical. Jio reports that it has filed over 8,000 patents—hundreds of which are related to 6G—and has made more than 934 contributions toward the establishment of global standards.
Benefits for everyone, from farmers to scientists
Jio notes that 6G will enable even faster response times for AI-driven services—a significant advantage for applications that require immediate information or instantaneous feedback. The company has highlighted the delivery of AI-based services to farmers, doctors, and students as a potential use case. Jio is also working toward making future networks ‘AI-native’ and ‘quantum-safe,’ ensuring that high-speed connectivity is coupled with robust security.
Moving beyond just the network
Jio’s ambitions extend well beyond the deployment of a 6G network. The company has begun focusing on expanding its footprint across four key fronts: hardware, software, patents, and global standards. Jio describes this vision as ‘India’s 6G in the making’ and ‘From India to the world,’ with the ultimate goal of extending Indian technology to other nations across the globe.
