Users listening to music on YouTube Music will soon find it easier to identify AI-generated content. YouTube has begun applying specific labels to AI-created songs on its music streaming platform. These labels will appear below the song title and artist information, just above the music player controls. According to the company, this feature is being rolled out to users gradually.
Previously, in 2024, YouTube introduced labels for AI-generated content on its video platform. Initially, these labels appeared only when creators explicitly disclosed that they had used AI tools to produce their videos. However, in May of this year, the company introduced an automated AI detection tool capable of identifying AI-generated content even when the creator does not provide such information.

How will the AI label work on YouTube Music?

According to YouTube, when a user plays an AI-generated song, a specific label will appear within the music player. Clicking on this label will trigger a pop-up stating: "Made with AI. This audio was altered or fully generated using AI."

This message informs users that the song's audio has either been modified with the help of AI or entirely created using AI. The same label will also be visible for the respective track within the YouTube app.

How will AI-generated songs be identified?
The company will identify such songs using its own proprietary AI detection tools. Additionally, YouTube will collaborate with its music partners to flag AI-generated tracks—including songs where the melody or vocals have been produced using generative AI models.

The AI labeling policies already in place for YouTube’s video platform will also apply here. If a song is mistakenly flagged as being AI-generated, artists will be able to update its disclosure status. However, in certain specific cases, this information may remain permanent.

Spotify has also introduced an AI label.
YouTube Music is not the first platform to implement labels for AI-generated music. Back in August, Spotify began rolling out special badges to identify artist profiles that are AI-generated. Its system assigns labels such as "Likely AI Persona" and "AI Persona" to such profiles.
YouTube’s new feature will help users understand whether the music they are listening to is the product of human creativity or if AI has been used in its creation.
