Starlink India Update: Starlink, the world's largest satellite internet company, has clarified its position regarding its entry into the Indian telecommunications market. The company has sought to address concerns related to security and data. Speaking at the India Mobile Congress (IMC 2026), Lauren Dreyer, Vice President of Business Operations at Starlink, confirmed that the company has developed stringent security controls specifically for India. She stated that over 20 gateway sites have been established across the country. Dreyer added that the company is keeping Indian users' data secure within the country's borders—specifically, within India itself.

**Aiming to fulfill PM Modi's vision of 100% connectivity**
Addressing the event, Dreyer reiterated Starlink's commitment to India. She stated that Starlink is fully prepared to collaborate with the Indian government to extend connectivity to every corner of the country. She expressed the company's desire to contribute fully to realizing the Prime Minister's vision of achieving 100% internet connectivity across India. Starlink's technology has been specifically tailored to meet all of India's rigorous standards regarding regulation, security, and data sovereignty. The company has spent the past five years working closely with Indian regulators, industry partners, and telecom operators.

**Will complement, not replace, existing telecom companies**
Lauren Dreyer clarified that Starlink does not aim to replace India's existing telecom infrastructure. Starlink has not come to supplant traditional terrestrial networks but rather to extend their reach. She noted that when satellite and terrestrial networks work in tandem, telecom operators can expand beyond their current limitations, enabling government services to reach every citizen. She cited the MoUs signed with Airtel and Jio in India, along with ongoing discussions with various state governments, as prime examples of this collaboration.

**Infrastructure Ready on the Ground**
The company has already strengthened its ground presence in India, having established over 20 gateway sites and hundreds of antennas across the country. Lauren Dreyer acknowledged India's extraordinary progress in digital connectivity, noting that millions of people now have access to affordable data. However, connecting the country's remote and last-mile areas remains a major challenge, and Starlink is the ideal solution to bridge this gap.

Beyond Starlink, she also highlighted SpaceX's contribution to India's space program (ISRO), noting that the company has supported two dedicated Indian space missions and 19 other missions carrying Indian payloads.

**Musk's Allegations**
Elon Musk has made serious allegations regarding Starlink's entry into India. In a post on X, he claimed that influential business groups are blocking Starlink in the country to maintain their market dominance, describing this as a disservice to the Indian people. However, the government has clarified that the rules apply equally to all companies; like any other firm, Starlink is required to comply with regulatory procedures.

This raises the question of whether Musk is unaware of his own company's status. While Lauren Dreyer, Vice President of Business Operations at Starlink, speaks of adhering to all Indian regulations and aligning with PM Modi's vision, Musk is simultaneously leveling these allegations.
