IRCTC Launches New Facility for Passengers: A Single QR Code Will Reveal How Old the Food Is..
Indian Railways QR Code System: Most railway passengers frequently face significant issues regarding food. A long-standing complaint among passengers has been that they are often served stale or tasteless food. Addressing this very issue, IRCTC has introduced a QR Code facility, which will be affixed to food packets. Upon scanning these QR codes, essential details—including the time of preparation and the date of packaging—will be instantly displayed. This initiative aims to curb the activities of unauthorized vendors while simultaneously ensuring the safety and security of passengers.
Food Safety Supervisors to be Deployed
According to an official statement issued by IRCTC, it has been made mandatory for all authorized vendors, helpers, and staff working on trains to carry ID cards embedded with a personalized QR code. This will make it easy to distinguish between authorized and unauthorized vendors. The objective is to ensure the provision of safe and high-quality food to passengers, alongside improving the overall management of onboard catering services. Furthermore, Food Safety Supervisors will be deployed in the base kitchens to monitor food hygiene and quality standards. This measure will ensure that passengers are served only hygienic and safe food.
What Information Will the QR Codes Provide?
Scanning the QR codes embedded in the vendors' identity cards will reveal details such as their name, Aadhaar number, medical fitness status, and police verification records. This will clearly establish whether or not the vendor selling food on the train is authorized. Additionally, to curb unauthorized vending, QR codes will also be affixed to food packets. Scanning these QR codes will provide crucial information, such as the name of the kitchen where the food was prepared and its manufacturing date. Railway officials believe that these new initiatives will effectively put an end to the supply of substandard and expired food. Consequently, this will lead to improvements in food quality, hygiene, and safety standards, ensuring that passengers receive better-quality meals.
IRCTC to Launch Advanced Kitchens
IRCTC has also decided to set up advanced kitchens. CCTV cameras will be installed in these kitchens to monitor the entire cooking process and ensure that hygiene standards are maintained. Additionally, to further enhance the quality of the food, high-quality and branded raw materials will now be used in its preparation. These supplies will include items such as cooking oil, flour, rice, lentils, spices, paneer, and dairy products.
