IRCTC Beta Version: Indian Railways has launched the beta version of the new IRCTC website. It has not yet been permanently rolled out to all users; instead, it has been made available for testing purposes to gather public feedback. The objective is to understand how easy it is to book tickets on the new website, identify what has improved, and pinpoint areas that still require refinement.
The Railways states that necessary changes will be made to the website based on user suggestions and experiences. Subsequently, this new portal will be officially launched for the general public. Let us explore what a beta version is and how it differs from the original website.
What is a beta version?
A beta version is an early iteration of a website, app, or software released for public use. Its purpose is to observe the challenges real users face while using the site and to see which features are functioning effectively. During this phase, users provide their opinions and suggestions. Developers then make necessary improvements based on this feedback. The final or original version is launched only after all modifications are complete.
IRCTC website undergoing changes after nearly 24 years
The IRCTC website was first launched in 2002. Since then, millions of people have booked railway tickets through this platform. According to the Railways, the website handles an average of over 1.45 million (14.5 lakh) ticket bookings daily. Given the constantly increasing traffic and evolving needs associated with such a massive platform, significant changes are being made to its design and functionality to make ticket booking faster and easier than before.
How to use the new beta website?
The new beta website can be accessed at https://www.irctc.co.in/eticket/. Additionally, a link to the beta version will be provided on the homepage of the existing IRCTC website.
How does it differ from the original website?
According to the Ministry of Railways, the most significant change in the new website is its design. It will appear much cleaner and more organized than the previous version. Unnecessary pop-ups, flashy elements, and distracting features have been significantly reduced. This will allow users to easily focus on essential information and result in a better ticket-booking experience. The method for checking seat availability has also been revamped; previously, users had to repeatedly switch options to view seat availability across different classes, but now they can view availability for various classes on a single screen. This will make selecting the right option easier than before.
