Apple iPhone Theft Detection: To further bolster the security of iPhone users, the company is currently working on a new feature. A recent report has surfaced indicating that Apple—much like Android—is now developing a "Theft Detection Lock" feature for its users. Utilizing the phone's built-in AI and accelerometer sensors, this feature will be able to detect if the device has been forcibly snatched from a user's hand.

Apple is Developing This Feature
According to a report by 9to5Mac, the company is developing a new security feature that will automatically lock an iPhone the moment it detects that the device has been snatched from a user's hand. It remains unclear exactly when this feature will be rolled out to iPhone users. This upcoming feature reportedly operates based on a combination of signals—such as data from the iPhone's accelerometer—to accurately identify instances of theft or fraud.

Apple's "Anti-Snatching" feature functions similarly to Google's Theft Detection Lock feature found on Android devices. To verify potential incidents of theft or snatching, this feature will monitor the physical distance between the iPhone and a paired Apple Watch. If the phone moves too far away from its connected smartwatch, the system may interpret this as an additional indicator of theft.

How Will This Feature Work?
Apple's upcoming security feature will reportedly adhere to the protocols established by the existing "Stolen Device Protection" system. With this update, the iPhone will analyze whether the handset is connected to a recognized Wi-Fi network or located at a familiar location—such as the user's home or workplace. If the iPhone is detected at an unfamiliar location or on an unknown network, this feature will automatically lock the device and, under the framework of the Stolen Device Protection tool, restrict access to the user's secure accounts and personal information.

It is worth noting that to utilize the Stolen Device Protection feature, users are required to enable Two-Factor Authentication for their Apple account. To utilize this service, users can set up a passcode, Face ID, or Touch ID, and a trusted location. Additionally, the "Find My" feature must be enabled; furthermore, if "Stolen Device Protection" is active, this setting cannot be disabled.

How does Google Theft Detection work?
Google's Theft Detection Lock relies on on-device AI to analyze motion and context that indicate a "snatch-and-run" theft scenario. When an attempted theft is detected, this tool immediately locks the device screen.
