This new setting appears within WhatsApp's "Disappearing Messages" controls as an "After reading" option. Instead of starting a countdown immediately after a message is sent, this feature gives users the option to have a message deleted only *after* it has been read. Users can set the post-read timer to five minutes, one hour, or 12 hours. If the recipient does not open the message, WhatsApp will automatically delete it after 24 hours.

This feature works in conjunction with WhatsApp's existing Disappearing Messages system, which currently offers timer options of 24 hours, 7 days, and 90 days.
