Preparations are underway to deliver the new iOS 26.5 update to iPhone users; it is expected that this update will arrive prior to WWDC 2026, which begins on June 8. This new software update will focus on secure RCS messaging, new Pride-themed wallpapers, and upgrades to Apple Maps. Once released, the update could begin reaching compatible devices as early as next week.

With this release, RCS support in the Messages app will take a significant step forward, as Apple plans to add end-to-end encryption for RCS chats. This feature will initially arrive in a beta form and will work only with supported mobile carriers; its availability will be expanded gradually over time.

Apple's release notes indicate that RCS conversations within the Messages app will receive end-to-end encryption, thereby providing users with enhanced privacy for their chats. However, encryption for RCS will not be enabled for everyone simultaneously; instead, the company will roll it out gradually and share a detailed list of compatible carriers before the public launch. In addition to secure RCS messaging, iOS 26.5 will also revamp personalization options. It will introduce a new ‘Pride Luminance’ wallpaper, which users will be able to download and apply.

This Feature Will Be Added to Maps
With this update, the ‘Suggested Places’ feature is set to be added to the Maps app. This feature will display recommendations based on nearby trending locations and the user's recent search history. These suggestions aim to expedite everyday navigation; to achieve this, Maps will learn the user's habits over time and recommend more relevant routes and locations.

The focus of iOS 26 was on design and intelligence, and with this update, the company introduced numerous features such as Liquid Glass UI, Apple Intelligence, Genmoji, Live Translation, and Image Playground; now, the focus of the 26.5 update will be on messaging and discovery.
