iOS 26.1: iOS 26.1 is here, find out what changed and should you update or not?
On Tuesday, Apple rolled out the stable version of its iOS, iOS 26.1, to everyone. This update was eagerly awaited by those who installed it after the release of iOS 26. iOS 26 contained numerous bugs, and iPhone users were also experiencing battery life issues. Consequently, everyone was eagerly awaiting iOS 26. Let's take a look at the changes in this update and find out if you should install it.
Appearance Changes
With iOS 26.1, iPhone users have the option to change the Liquid Glass option to tinted. This means that if you're one of those users who had problems with the Liquid Glass design that came with iOS 26, you can improve the Liquid Glass design by changing it to a tinted one. To do this, you need to tap Display & Brightness in your iPhone's Settings. There, you'll see a new option called Liquid Glass. By tapping on it, you can choose between Clear and Tinted.
Animation Bug Fixes
Apple has also fixed animation bugs with this update. For example, since iOS 26, app icons used to load after unlocking the iPhone, and this happened every time the iPhone was unlocked. This bug, along with almost all animation-related bugs, has been fixed in iOS 26.1. You'll now see better and more fluid animations in iOS 26.1.
Lock Screen Gestures
iPhone users know that until now, swiping left on the iPhone's lock screen opened the Camera app. This gesture is available on all iPhones and is on by default. Now, with iOS 26.1, you can turn this gesture off if you wish. To do this, go to the Camera settings, scroll to the bottom, and then turn off Lock Screen Swipe Camera.
Changes to Apple TV+
If you use the Apple TV app, after installing iOS 26.1, you'll see only Apple TV instead of Apple TV+. Furthermore, when you play a video in the Photos app, you'll now see a new video controller to control it.
How's the battery backup?
People are particularly curious about the battery backup in iOS 26.1. We were previously using the beta version of iOS 26.1, and the battery backup was better than that of iOS 26. However, now that the stable version of iOS 26.1 has rolled out today, we'll be testing its battery backup further and will be able to share details.
Should you install it?
It's generally recommended to wait a few days after any update rollout before switching to it, so that if there are any major issues with that update, you'll be aware of them before installing the new update. However, if you are very upset with the animations, liquid glass design, and battery backup of iOS 26, then you can install this update.
