Investment Scams Rising in India: Investment scams are rapidly increasing in India. Recently, a Chandigarh man suffered a massive loss of over ₹1.5 million due to a fake trading site he found on Telegram. Initially, he was lured by fraudsters with the promise of easy profits, which later proved costly. This incident highlights the growing problem of online investment fraud. Here, we're telling you how to avoid them.

Fake Trading Site on Telegram
Bhanu, a resident of Sector 14, Chandigarh, fell victim to this scam. On June 3, he received a message on Telegram from a person named Prashant Shri. The message claimed that he could earn daily profits of ₹3,000 to ₹5,000 with an initial investment of ₹10,999. Bhanu was convinced the platform was legitimate after seeing an immediate return of ₹15,000 after his initial investment. This small payment was a fraudulent scheme.

Large investments and false promises, then a scam
Encouraged by initial profits, Bhanu began investing larger amounts. The fraudsters lured him with promises of higher returns through a special event. In total, Bhanu deposited ₹15.17 lakh through multiple transactions. When he tried to withdraw the money, he was asked to pay a verification fee of ₹2.44 lakh, but none of the money was returned. He was lured by the fake app and interface, and then the fraudsters disappeared.

Police Investigation and Cyber Expert Warning
Following the scam, Bhanu filed a complaint with the Sector 17 Cyber Crime Police, and the investigation is ongoing. Similar cases have been reported before, such as a recent case in which a software engineer in Hyderabad lost over ₹1 crore. Cyber experts say that people are lured by promising small returns, and then large sums are siphoned off in the name of additional fees. They advise being wary of claims of excessive investment returns and reporting suspicious activity immediately.
