If you frequently travel by train, this news is highly significant for you. Train passengers may now benefit from improved punctuality and better access to timely train services. Indian Railways has launched a new Android-based mobile application to monitor train movements in real time. Named 'Punctuality BZA', this app was developed by the Vijayawada Division of South Coast Railway. It enables railway staff to instantly view train status, delays, and other vital information directly on their mobile phones. Tasks that previously required a computer have now become faster and easier to manage.

What features does it offer?
The app provides all essential train-related information on a single dashboard. Features include tracking train status across different sections, PAM statistics, monitoring delayed trains, identifying 'lost' trains (trains whose location is untraced), and receiving instant alerts for delays exceeding 15 minutes. This assists officials in making quick decisions. The app is linked to a GPS-based delay monitoring system that automatically records train movements, logs reasons for delays instantly, and reduces paperwork. This allows train managers to focus more effectively on safe train operations.

How did the previous system work?
Previously, the railways relied primarily on the ICMS (Integrated Coaching Management System) web portal. This required officials to log in repeatedly using OTPs and switch between multiple screens. In contrast, the new app features a user-friendly, unified dashboard that consolidates various pieces of information in one place.

What are the benefits of this app?
The new 'Punctuality BZA' app will help railway officials make prompt decisions and play a crucial role in minimizing passenger inconvenience. Following its successful implementation in the Vijayawada Division, the app could potentially be rolled out to other divisions as well.
