Instagram has updated its policies regarding profiles featuring AI-generated personas. The platform is renaming the existing "AI creator" label to "AI-generated profile." Profiles that feature an AI-generated person without disclosing this information may face restrictions on recommendations; essentially, if the AI label is not applied, Instagram may limit the content's reach. However, creators who correctly apply the AI label to their profiles will not face a reduction in reach.

**New Label for AI Profiles**
In a blog post, Instagram announced that it is transitioning from the current "AI creator" label to an "AI-generated profile" label. The platform began testing this label earlier this year. Creators who previously used the old label can confirm the new label or remove it if it no longer applies. The new label is intended for profiles that feature an AI-generated person.

**Impact on Recommendations if Label is Missing**
If a profile features an AI-generated person but lacks the necessary disclosure, it may become ineligible for Instagram recommendations. Affected creators will be notified and can check their account status to see if reach restrictions have been imposed. If a profile loses its eligibility for recommendations, the creator can regain it by adding the "AI-generated profile" label.

**No Reduction in Reach with Correct Labeling**
Instagram has clarified that creators will not face reach penalties for correctly disclosing AI-generated profiles. If a creator believes their profile has been restricted in error, they can appeal via the account status section. If the appeal is successful, the profile and its content will once again become eligible for recommendations. However, simply using AI tools to create content will not necessitate the application of a profile-level AI label.

Rules Changed Following User Complaints
According to Instagram, this change was made in response to feedback from users who encountered profiles that appeared to belong to real people at first glance but were later revealed to feature AI-generated individuals. The platform states that the new labeling system will better help users understand who—or what—is actually behind the profiles they see on Instagram.
