Instagram Tips: Instagram Reels can't use more than 3 hashtags, will new creators be punished?

It seems Instagram is testing a new limitation. If you're uploading a post or reel to Instagram and can't add more than three hashtags, you shouldn't be the only one experiencing this. It appears Instagram is following TikTok's lead and planning to limit the number of hashtags. Recently, TikTok also reportedly limited the number of hashtags to five.

A sudden change was observed in the number of hashtags allowed on Instagram. More than three hashtags were not allowed when uploading a post or reel. If you try, a message appears from Instagram that says, "You can only add three hashtags to your caption," meaning you can only add three hashtags to your caption. Instagram has not yet announced this.

Is there a limit on all types of accounts?
I tested this limitation on both Android and iOS platforms. Interestingly, on Android, regardless of the account type, whether it was Standard or Creator, there was no limit on hashtags. This means that Android users can currently add as many hashtags to their posts as before without any restrictions.

However, the situation is completely different on iPhone. On iOS, this restriction is only visible for Creator accounts, while Standard accounts experience no problems adding more than three hashtags. This clearly means that the limitations are currently being tested on Creator accounts on the iOS platform.

Some posts have also been shared on X, where users have encountered a similar issue. These posts have been shared from different corners of the world, indicating that the testing is being conducted worldwide. The hashtag limit on Instagram is 30. It's worth noting that TikTok also recently limited the number of hashtags on its platform to 5.

If Meta is planning a similar limit in the future, it remains to be seen how it will affect smaller or growing accounts. Users who used to gain audiences through hashtags using analytics will now have to adopt new methods.

Meanwhile, it's unclear how long this limit will last or whether it will be implemented across the entire platform. It's possible this is just a test that Instagram is testing on select accounts. So, if you've encountered this limit, don't panic; wait for an announcement from Instagram.
