Instagram has introduced two useful new features for users and creators. Users can now reorder photos in live carousel posts and pause Reels with a single tap.

There is welcome news for content creators and general users on Instagram. Meta has finally begun rolling out a feature that users have been requesting for years. Users can now change the order of photos in a carousel post (a post containing multiple photos or videos) even after it has been published. Additionally, the company has added a single-tap pause feature to improve the Reels viewing experience.

No More Worries About Incorrect Photo Sequences: Here’s How to Drag and Drop

It was common for users or creators sharing a carousel of 5–10 photos to accidentally place one photo out of order or leave the main cover photo in the wrong spot. Correcting this minor error previously required deleting and re-uploading the post, resulting in the loss of accumulated likes, comments, and reach.

With the new update, users can easily change the sequence of a live post:

Go to your profile and open the carousel post you wish to edit.
Tap the three-dot menu in the top-right corner.
Select the 'Edit' option.
Long-press the photo or video you want to move and drag it to your desired position.
Note that this feature only allows you to reorder existing photos and videos; the option to add new photos to a published post is not yet available.

Easier Reels Viewing: Pause the Screen with a Single Tap

In addition to the carousel feature, Instagram has also introduced a useful change for Reels. Previously, users had to press and hold the screen to pause a Reel or read the text displayed on it. The new update introduces a 'single-tap to pause' feature, allowing users to pause a Reel with just a single touch.

This change is particularly beneficial for users who like to carefully view Reels containing long captions, on-screen text, tutorials, or recipes. Once the screen is paused, an option to mute the audio also appears.

Why are these features significant for creators and brands?

In the era of digital content creation, carousel posts are considered one of the most effective storytelling tools. The quality of the first image and the sequence of the subsequent slides determine whether a user stays on your post or swipes past it.

If a specific visual underperforms after a post is published, brands and creators can now easily drag a better-performing photo to the front. This also makes it easier to reorganize existing content while maintaining the aesthetic of the profile grid.

User experience with the new features

While many users feel this basic feature should have been introduced much earlier, Meta's move will help alleviate creator frustration. This feature eliminates the stress of repeatedly checking posts before publishing and places full control over the Reel-viewing experience in the user's hands.
