Currently, this feature is in its early stages and is not yet available to the general public.

What is the Close Friends feature, and what will change?

Launched in 2018, the Close Friends feature allows users to share their Stories and Reels with only selected people. Until now, if someone added you to their Close Friends list, you had no option to remove yourself. But with the new update, you will be able to remove yourself from that list. Doing so will prevent you from seeing that user's private Stories and Reels until they add you again.

This upcoming feature was revealed by reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi. He also observed that Instagram is working on some new subscription-based tools. These may include features such as the ability to create unlimited audience lists, the option to see who isn't following you back, and the ability to view Stories without the other person knowing. Interestingly, Snapchat already offers a similar feature where users can remove themselves from someone's private story. Now, Instagram also seems to be moving in the same direction.
