Indian Railways and train delays have become almost synonymous. While we often use various third-party apps to check train status, obtaining accurate information remains a challenge. To address this issue and enable real-time monitoring of trains, Indian Railways has now turned to technology in a significant way.

The Railways has launched its first internal Android app to monitor train schedules and track delays exceeding 15 minutes. Let’s understand what this app is and how it works.

What is the Punctuality BZA app?
First, it is important to note that this is an internal mobile app. This means that general passengers cannot download it from the Play Store; it has been designed exclusively for use by railway officials and controllers.

Named 'Punctuality BZA', this Android-based app was developed by the Vijayawada Division of the South Coast Railway (SCoR). It enables officials to monitor train movements on their smartphones from anywhere.

Replacing the old desktop system
Until now, railway officials relied on the desktop-based ICMS web portal to track trains. That old system was quite cumbersome:

It could only be accessed on a computer.
It required repeated authentication via OTPs.
Navigating through multiple screens was necessary to view information.
The new app eliminates these hassles. Railway officials now have access to a simple, clean dashboard where all essential operational information is available in real-time on their mobile screens.

Key features of the Punctuality BZA app
This new app is integrated with the Late Train Monitoring (LTM BZA) system. Let’s take a look at its main features:

Automatic Notifications: If a train is delayed by more than 15 minutes, officials receive an immediate alert on their mobile phones. GPS Tracking: Using GPS, this app will record the precise arrival and departure times of trains.

Paperless Work: Previously, train managers had to maintain records on paper; now, however, all data entry tasks will be automated through this app.

PDF Reports: A PDF copy of any detail recorded in the system can be generated with a single tap.

Identifying 'Lost' Trains: The app includes a feature to track train status by section and identify 'lost' trains.

How will passengers benefit?
Although this app is designed for railway staff, ordinary passengers will also benefit directly. When railway officials have access to real-time, accurate data regarding train delays, they will be able to manage traffic and routes more effectively. At the very least, the system will now know exactly which train is running late, from which station, and by how much time.
