Patients will now receive a warning of an impending heart attack as early as three hours in advance. This will be made possible by a specialized type of smartwatch. Dr. Smit Shrivastav, a leading physician at the Advanced Cardiac Institute (ACI) located within Raipur's Mekahara complex, along with his team, has conducted clinical trials on this smartwatch. These trials have proven to be entirely successful. This will be the world's first such watch capable of alerting a user to the danger of a heart attack three hours before it actually occurs.

The clinical trials were completed under the sponsorship of the prestigious Rutgers University in the United States. As part of this trial—which commenced in the years 2021–22—clinical testing was conducted on 500 individuals across India. Of these, trials involving 100 patients were carried out at the ACI in Raipur. Following the smartwatch's success in the clinical trials, its prototype has now been sent for final redesign to ensure it is ready for use by the general public.

"Our clinical trial, initiated in 2021–22 under the sponsorship of Rutgers University, has been successful. The trials were conducted on 500 patients nationwide, including 100 patients at the Raipur ACI. It is a matter of immense pride for us that this smartwatch will be able to predict the likelihood of a heart attack three hours in advance."

How does this smartwatch work?
While standard smartwatches currently available on the market typically only measure pulse rate or blood pressure, the smartwatch that underwent these clinical trials operates on a fundamentally different technology. Traditionally, detecting a heart attack involves drawing a blood sample to analyze Troponin levels; however, the specialized AI sensor embedded in this watch measures Troponin levels without requiring any blood to be drawn from the body.

The sensor instantly detects any dangerously elevated levels of Troponin and alerts the patient—via an alarm or notification—approximately three hours before the onset of a heart attack. This will enable patients to access medical care promptly and help avert life-threatening risks.

India Accounts for 20% of Global Heart Attack Deaths

According to the 'Beat by Beat 2025' report, India accounts for 20 percent of all heart attack-related deaths worldwide. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 19.8 million people died from cardiovascular and blood vessel-related diseases in 2022.

Of these, approximately 85% of deaths were directly caused by heart attacks and strokes. This device is set to prove a game-changer in the early detection and treatment of heart attacks.

The Smartwatch: A Lifesaver for These Groups

Heart Attacks During Exercise or Dance: In recent times, several cases have emerged where young individuals have suffered sudden heart attacks while exercising or dancing. This watch will provide them with a timely warning.

Confusion Between Gas and Heart Attacks: Often, people dismiss severe chest pain, mistaking it for gas. This watch will help eliminate this potentially fatal misconception.

Protection Against Panic: For patients who frequently experience mild chest pain—and subsequently panic, fearing it is a heart attack—this watch will prove to be extremely beneficial.

Silent Heart Attacks: For patients who fall victim to "silent heart attacks," this device will be nothing short of a blessing.
