Incognito Chat Feature Arrives on WhatsApp: Chat Freely with AI
WhatsApp Incognito Chat: You will now enjoy complete privacy while chatting with Meta AI on the messaging platform WhatsApp. To enable this, the company has launched a new feature called 'Incognito Chat.'
WhatsApp Incognito Chat: Meta has rolled out a new feature for its messaging platform, WhatsApp. You can now chat freely and openly with AI on this platform without the worry that someone might be reading your conversations. To chat with Meta AI on WhatsApp, you can simply switch on the 'Incognito Chat' mode. This ensures total privacy. Meta states that conversations conducted in this mode will not be stored on the company's servers. In addition to WhatsApp, this feature has also been launched on the Meta AI app.
Zuckerberg Himself Announces the Incognito Chat Feature
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced this feature on his WhatsApp Channel. He described it as a private way to converse with AI, functioning similarly to end-to-end encrypted messaging. Zuckerberg noted that this rollout begins with WhatsApp and the Meta AI app, ensuring that neither Meta nor WhatsApp—nor anyone else—will be able to read your chats. It is worth noting that users will have the option for Incognito Chat exclusively when interacting with Meta AI; end-to-end encryption will continue to apply to chats with all other contacts.
How Does the Incognito Chat Feature Work?
According to Meta, this feature processes AI requests within a Trusted Execution Environment (TEE). Consequently, neither Meta nor WhatsApp can access these requests. Furthermore, once a session concludes, the conversation will vanish from the user's phone as well. Zuckerberg highlights that this specific aspect distinguishes this feature from other "disappearing" AI chat services, where conversation logs may remain stored on servers for months.
Why Was the Incognito Chat Feature Needed?
Explaining the necessity of this feature, Zuckerberg stated that AI systems and tools are now being utilized for personal tasks as well; consequently, users require privacy when interacting with them. To derive the maximum benefit from personal superintelligence, we need methods for discussing sensitive topics that ensure no one else can access those conversations. The company has now begun rolling out this feature on WhatsApp and the Meta AI app. However, information regarding the specific countries where it will be launched has not yet been disclosed.
