On the first day of the iPhone 17 Series sale, people queued up for hours, leading to scuffles. This demonstrates the immense popularity of iPhones in India. There's a strong demand for not only new iPhones but also used iPhones. Some people are unable to purchase a new iPhone due to limited budgets, but they are still choosing second-hand iPhones over other flagship phones running on the Android operating system.

Used iPhones: Shifting from the Budget to the Premium Segment
Cashify's Annual User Behavior Survey 2025 revealed that three out of every five Indians who purchased refurbished smartphones in the first half of 2025 purchased an iPhone. Apple devices accounted for 62.9% of refurbished mobile phone sales during this period, indicating a growing appetite for premium brands in the second-hand market.

A Cashify report states that demand for refurbished phones is rapidly shifting from budget models to the mid-range (15,000 to 30,000 rupees) and premium (over 60,000 rupees) segments.

The Great Indian Upgrade 2025 report surveyed 10,000 people and, incorporating Cashify's marketplace transaction data, provides insights into the changes taking place in India's second-hand smartphone market. Apple's dominance in the refurbished segment is also surpassing major companies. Apple's sales share in the refurbished segment is projected to be 64.5 percent in 2024 and 62.9 percent in the first half of 2025.

Why are people going crazy?
Privacy and Security: Regardless of the Apple device, users get strong privacy and security. The company provides regular security updates to maintain the device's security.

Resale Value: The iPhone's resale value is much higher than any Android phone. Even after using it for a few years, selling it can fetch a good price.

Camera: Apple has distanced itself from the race for 200-megapixel and 108-megapixel camera sensors. The company's 48-megapixel camera is significantly better than the 108-megapixel and 200-megapixel cameras found on Android phones. This is why people love the iPhone so much.
