Calling Name Presentation: The government's CNAP service will now make the caller's real name visible on calls. Find out if any changes to your phone settings will be necessary for this.
Calling Name Presentation: Nowadays, almost everyone receives numerous calls from unknown numbers daily. Sometimes these turn out to be fraudulent or spam calls, causing distress. Now, a permanent solution to this problem is on the horizon. TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) has approved Calling Name Presentation (CNAP).
Now, when you receive a call on your phone, not just the number but the caller's real name will also be visible. With the launch of this service, users will be able to identify the true identity of the caller and avoid fraudulent calls. Now, many people are wondering if any settings changes will be required for this. Find out the full story.
What is the CNAP service?
CNAP, or Calling Name Presentation, is a technology that displays the caller's name on your mobile screen when a call arrives. This name is the actual name registered with the telecom company associated with the mobile number. This means there's no need to rely on third-party apps like Truecaller. CNAP aims to protect people from fraudulent calls and spam and increase transparency.
TRAI, in collaboration with the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), has decided to implement this service nationwide in a phased manner. Initially, it will be available on 4G and 5G networks, while 2G and 3G users will benefit after technology upgrades.
Will phone settings need to be changed?
According to TRAI, users will not need to change any separate settings to enable this service. CNAP will be active by default on all mobile networks. However, those who do not want their information displayed on the screen can choose to disable it. Telecom operators will provide an opt-out feature on their portals or mobile apps. Some mobile companies will incorporate this through system updates so that every user can see the correct information.
What will be the benefit of this?
The biggest benefit of CNAP is that it will curb fraudulent and fake calls. Now, no unknown person will be able to mislead people with a fake name or number. By seeing the caller's real name, the user will immediately be able to identify whether the call is genuine or not.
