Transport departments in several states, including Uttar Pradesh, have advised via social media and official notices that if your DL photo is old or blurred, you should check the online update facility on the 'Parivahan Sewa' website before visiting the RTO. It is worth noting that a driving license is not merely a legal document authorizing you to drive; it is also accepted as a primary proof of identity and address.

How to change your DL photo online
If the online service for driving license corrections or updates is active in your state, you can apply to change your photo by following the steps below:

First, visit the official portal at parivahan.gov.in or sarathi.parivahan.gov.in. On the homepage, go to the 'Online Services' menu and click on 'Driving License Related Services'. Select your state. Choose the 'Services on DL' or 'Change of Particulars in DL' option from the dropdown menu. Enter your driving license number and date of birth to verify your details. Complete the authentication process using the OTP sent to the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar card. Select the 'Change of Photo' option and upload your new passport-sized photograph. Pay the prescribed government fee online, then download and save the acknowledgment receipt.

Required photo specifications
The photo must be recent, passport-sized, and a frontal shot. The background should be off-white or light grey. The image must be in JPEG or JPG format, with a file size between 10 KB and 20 KB.
