Now, users who subscribe to Google AI Pro will also receive a YouTube Premium Lite membership at no additional cost. Through this new offer, users will be able to watch most videos on YouTube without ads. However, for many users in India, this comes with a significant condition.
Free AI Pro Users via Jio Will Not Receive This Benefit
The company has made it clear that this YouTube Premium Lite offer applies only to those who are paying directly for Google AI Pro. This means that users who received an 18-month free AI Pro plan through the Reliance Jio partnership will not be granted this feature during their trial period.
This information was shared by Vikas Kansal on X. He explained that users on the Jio offer will only receive YouTube Premium Lite once they switch to a paid AI Pro plan after their free trial expires.
What is the YouTube Premium Lite Plan?
YouTube Premium Lite is a lighter version of the company’s standard YouTube Premium service. In India, it is priced at ₹89 per month. Under this plan, most standard videos can be watched without ads; however, advertisements will still appear on Shorts, music content, and search pages.
Furthermore, this plan does not include several premium features. Users will not have access to amenities such as YouTube Music Premium, advanced playback controls, a video queuing system, or high-quality audio.
Method of Using Gemini AI Also Changes
Google has implemented this change at a time when the company is also altering the way Gemini AI is utilized. Previously, users were allotted a daily prompt limit; they are now being transitioned to a compute-based system.
Under this new model, AI usage will be calculated based on various factors, such as the complexity of the prompt, the length of the conversation, and the specific AI tools being utilized. The company stated via email that Gemini’s usage limit will now refresh every five hours; however, a weekly cap will also remain in effect alongside this.
Users Express Frustration on Reddit
Google’s new system is facing significant criticism across social media platforms and Reddit. Many users argue that using Gemini AI has now become more confusing than before.
One Reddit user claimed that engaging in just a few lengthy conversations with Gemini consumed nearly half of their weekly usage limit. Meanwhile, other users suggested that Google should have provided clearer information before implementing this change.
Expanding Features in the AI Pro Subscription
Nevertheless, Google is continuously striving to enhance the utility of its AI Pro plan. By bundling YouTube Premium Lite with Gemini AI features, the company aims to attract users who wish to enjoy the benefits of both AI and entertainment services simultaneously.
