Google has introduced a new AI tool named Lyria 3 Pro. This serves as an upgrade to the existing Lyria 3, which was launched last month. This new model enables users to generate music tracks up to three minutes in length. This marks a significant improvement over Lyria 3, which was previously limited to generating tracks of only up to 30 seconds.

Lyria 3 Pro also offers enhanced customization options and creative control. Google states that this model possesses a deeper understanding of musical composition, allowing users to provide specific prompts for distinct sections of a song—such as the intro, verse, chorus, and bridge.

In a blog post, Google wrote, "This is excellent for experimenting with different styles or for creating songs featuring complex transitions."

Lyria 3 Pro is already available as a public preview across several Google platforms. Businesses can access it via Vertex AI, while developers can utilize it through Google AI Studio. The tool is also available on Google Vids. Additionally, paid users of the Gemini app can also access and use this tool.

Both Lyria 3 and Lyria 3 Pro are capable of generating music tracks from text prompts, photos, and videos. To create a track using text, users can describe a specific genre, mood, inside joke, or memory. The model then generates a track—featuring either lyrics or instrumental audio—based on the provided prompt. Users can also generate tracks from photos or videos; upon uploading an image or video, Gemini analyzes its content to create a track with lyrics that match the corresponding mood.

Google states that this model was trained using content from YouTube and other sources for which Google holds usage rights. The company also noted that music generated by Lyria 3 Pro features an embedded SynthID watermark, which aids in identifying AI-generated content.

 Growing Concerns Over AI-Generated Music
This launch comes at a time when concerns are mounting regarding a flood of low-quality, mass-produced AI songs on music streaming platforms like Spotify. While users can often avoid these tracks, some of them have been falsely attributed to—and presented as the work of—real musicians on these platforms.

To address this issue, Spotify is reportedly testing a new tool called "Artist Profile Protection." This tool will enable artists to review their songs before they go live and are linked to their profiles. Recently, Sony requested that Spotify remove over 135,000 AI-generated songs. This action was taken after it was discovered that these tracks were mimicking real artists. AI-generated music is also rapidly filling the void left by bands that have completely withdrawn from Spotify.
