Google Skills Feature: In a blog post, Google announced that it is updating its browser and integrating AI (Artificial Intelligence) capabilities into Chrome's functionality. The company states that, going forward, users will be able to utilize pre-set commands and queries for Gemini directly within Chrome. These commands can be executed with a single click, thereby freeing users from the need to repeatedly type out frequently used AI queries and commands. The company has dubbed these AI command presets "Skills."

How Can It Be Used?

After entering an AI prompt in the Chrome sidebar, users can generate it as a "Skill" by scrolling to the bottom of the page—an option that becomes available once Gemini has provided a response to the query. When a user taps on this saved prompt—now presented as a "Skill" button—a small dialog box will open. Users can then edit the prompt and assign a specific name to the Skill. Subsequently, they must click the "Save" button to add this Skill to their personal library. To access a saved Skill, users simply need to type the "/" symbol followed by the Skill's name. Similarly, to add more Skills, users can click the "Plus" (+) icon to create and add new entries.

Google's Goal: To Assist Users

Furthermore, the tech giant Google is building a library of these "Skills" directly within Chrome. This feature allows users who prefer not to repeatedly type out their queries to instead utilize prompts and preset commands curated directly by Google. The company notes that it has developed these Skills with a creative focus, leveraging specific instructions provided to the Gemini AI model. By analyzing a user's screen, this feature offers the assurance that AI will provide every possible assistance based on their specific needs; it has the potential to successfully save both the user's time and effort—provided, of course, that it is utilized correctly and with a proper understanding of its functionality. Google's clear objective is to ensure that this feature proves to be genuinely useful for its users.
