Google has launched a new feature for account recovery. This feature, called Recovery Contacts, allows you to add someone you know to your account. A recovery code will then be sent to their number.

A new feature has been introduced for Google Account users. It provides another option for account recovery in case you lose your phone or forget your password. This feature, called Recovery Contacts, has been introduced to secure your Android and Google accounts. Let's explore how this feature works and when it might be useful to you.

What is the Recovery Contact feature?

With this feature, Google gives you the option to add a friend or acquaintance to your account. This contact can help you access your locked account. Whether your account has been hacked or you've forgotten your password, this recovery contact will allow you to verify your identity on Google. In such a situation, Google will send a unique code to this contact. Using this code, you will be able to log in to your account again. This code will be valid for 15 minutes.

How to add a recovery contact to your account?

To do this, go to your Google Account settings and open the Security tab. You can add a new recovery contact to the recovery option shown here. You will need to send an invite to add them. Once the invite is accepted, the person will be added to your recovery contacts. You can add up to 10 people under this option. If you recover your account using one of these contacts, you will not be able to add them to your recovery contacts again for seven days.

These options are currently available.

Currently, Google offers recovery email and phone number options, but these also pose risks like SIM swapping and phishing. The new feature includes human intervention. In such a situation, even if your phone number or SIM card is compromised, your recovery contact will help you recover your account. This feature will be rolled out to all users in the coming weeks.
