Google today launched its new, faster AI model, Gemini 3 Flash. This model is based on Gemini 3, which was released last month, and is specifically designed for fast, cost-effective, and high-volume tasks. The company is calling it a workhorse model.

Google is now making Gemini 3 Flash the default model globally in the Gemini app and the default for AI mode in Google Search. However, users can manually select Gemini 3 Pro for more complex questions, such as those involving math and coding.

Strong Performance in Benchmarks
Gemini 3 Flash performed impressively in several key benchmarks. For example, it scored 33.7% on the Humanity’s Last Exam benchmark without the use of tools. This benchmark is designed to test expertise across various domains. In comparison, Gemini 3 Pro scored 37.5%, Gemini 2.5 Flash scored 11%, and the newly launched GPT-5.2 scored 34.5%.

Proficient in Multimodal Tasks
According to Google, Gemini 3 Flash has a better understanding of video, images, and audio. It can understand the intent of a user's question and respond with visuals. For example, a user could upload a pickleball video and ask a question, or create a sketch and ask what they have drawn. It can also create quizzes or analyses from audio.

For Developers and Companies

Gemini 3 Flash is also available on Vertex AI and Gemini Enterprise, which companies like Figma and Cursor are already using. It is being made available as a preview model in the API and Google's new coding tool, Antigravity. Meanwhile, Gemini 3 Pro scored 78 percent in the SWE-Bench coding benchmark, surpassed only by GPT-5.2.

Pricing and Speed
Gemini 3 Flash is priced at $0.50 per million input tokens and $3.00 per million output tokens. It's slightly more expensive than Gemini 2.5 Flash, but also three times faster. Google is processing over 1 trillion tokens daily. Sam Altman issued a "Code Red" when ChatGPT traffic declined. In response, OpenAI launched GPT-5.2 and a new image model. Google says this competition is forcing all companies to innovate faster and better.
