Google Chrome's new feature: useless notifications will automatically stop, making browsing even cleaner...

Google has added a new "Smart Alert Control" feature to its popular web browser, Google Chrome. This feature will automatically disable notifications from websites that users haven't interacted with for a significant amount of time. Its purpose is to eliminate unwanted pop-ups and unnecessary alerts that often interrupt browsing.
This update is being rolled out for both Android and desktop versions and will further enhance Chrome's existing privacy tools.
How the new feature will work
According to Google's blog post, this feature is part of the Chrome Safety Check System. This system previously removed permissions like camera and location from inactive websites. Now, notification permissions will also be automatically revoked.
According to the company, Chrome's internal data shows that less than 1% of users interact with any web notifications. This means that most notifications are merely a distraction. Therefore, Chrome is implementing automatic notification control for user convenience.
Which websites will not be affected?
Google has clarified that this change will not apply uniformly to all websites. Notifications will only be disabled from sites with low user engagement but high notification output.
Notifications from websites that users have installed as web apps will not be affected. Furthermore, if permissions are revoked from a site, Chrome will notify the user. Users can re-enable notifications by going to Safety Check or revisiting the website.
The feature will remain completely under user control.
If a user does not want this change, they can also disable this auto-revocation feature completely. Google says that during testing, notification overload was significantly reduced, while user clicks were not negatively impacted.
Interestingly, websites that send fewer notifications experienced increased user engagement. This means that this feature will not only provide relief to users but will also encourage websites to send notifications more thoughtfully.
