Google has introduced a highly useful AI feature for its Chrome browser users called "Select from Screen." If you have ever used Google's popular "Circle to Search" feature on a smartphone, you will love this new tool.

With this feature, you no longer need to type or copy-paste text to search for something on your desktop. Simply select the content on your screen and ask Gemini about it directly.

How does this feature work?
Arriving with Chrome version 149, this tool allows you to send any part of your screen directly to the Gemini prompt. For example:

Online Shopping: You are looking at shoes online and feel undecided. Simply select the photo of the shoes and ask Gemini, "Which of these is best for running?"

Studying or Research: Select a complex diagram and ask for an explanation in simple language.

Designing: Select a section of a webpage and ask Gemini for new ideas.

How to use "Select from Screen"?
Using this feature is very easy. Just follow these steps:

Open Google Chrome on your computer.
Click on "Ask Gemini" located at the top of the browser.
Click on the plus (+) icon to access the "Add" menu.
Select the "Select from Screen" option.
Now, use your mouse to draw a box around the part of the webpage you want information about.

Type your question in the text box below and search.
If you wish to exit this selection mode, press the Esc key on your keyboard.
Tip: You can resize the selection box by dragging its edges or move the entire box as needed.

Important Note
This new feature is being rolled out with Chrome version 149. If you do not see it in your browser, you may need to update Chrome and restart it. How do I update Chrome?
Go to the three-dot menu (⋮) at the top right of the browser > Settings > About Chrome. Here, Chrome will automatically update to the latest version.
