According to Google, this vulnerability is actively being exploited in real-world attacks. The researcher was awarded $1,000 for the discovery. **Attack possible via crafted HTML page**
According to the National Vulnerability Database, CVE-2026-85046 involves a type confusion issue in the V8 engine. By exploiting this, a remote attacker can execute arbitrary code within the sandbox using a specially crafted HTML page. V8 is Chrome's JavaScript engine, which enables web applications and interactive websites to run within the browser. Most of the vulnerabilities addressed in this Google update fall under the high-severity category.
**Update other browsers, not just Chrome**
According to Google, this is the sixth zero-day vulnerability fixed for Chrome in 2026. The issue also affects other browsers based on Chromium. In light of this, users of Microsoft Edge, Brave, Opera, and Vivaldi are also advised to install the latest versions of their browsers. To check for updates in Chrome, click on the three dots in the top-right corner, go to 'Help', and then select 'About Google Chrome'; the browser's current version number will be displayed there.
