Google AI Mode: Is the AI feature moving on Google’s search page? The company is experimenting.

Google is testing the removal of the 'AI Mode' button from its search page. For some users, this shortcut has already disappeared, while others can still see it as before. Find out why Google is making this change.

Google AI Mode: When you open Google to search for something on the internet, your eyes naturally go to the search bar first. Recently, the presence of AI has increasingly become a part of this experience. Beyond standard search results, Google has provided users with the option to get answers to their questions using AI. A dedicated 'AI Mode' button has been available in the search bar for this purpose; however, a new change has now been observed regarding this specific button. According to reports, Google is testing the removal of the 'AI Mode' shortcut from the search page. This change is not yet visible to all users, suggesting that Google is currently testing it with only a select group.

Why is Google changing its search interface?

Google frequently tests various adjustments—both large and small—to the design and features of its search page. By presenting different interfaces to limited user groups, the company aims to understand which designs and features are most frequently used. Through such tests, Google may also be exploring how users interact with AI-powered features when a dedicated 'AI Mode' button is no longer present near the search bar. That said, the company has not yet provided an official explanation for this test.

'AI Mode' button disappears for some users

According to information shared on the social media platform X, the 'AI Mode' shortcut was removed for some users—including in Incognito Mode and within the Chrome browser—though it was noted that the button remained visible in other computing environments or different sessions. This indicates that the company is currently testing this change with only a subset of its user base. This information was highlighted in a report by Search Engine Roundtable. The report also notes that this change could not be independently verified or confirmed. It would be inaccurate to claim that Google has removed the 'AI Mode' button for all users.

Is Google's 'AI Mode' being discontinued?

For now, this change should not be interpreted as a sign that 'AI Mode' is being shut down. According to the report, only the dedicated shortcut has disappeared from the search bars of some users. This does not imply that the company intends to remove the feature entirely. Furthermore, there has been no official announcement regarding the permanent removal of 'AI Mode'.
