There is welcome news for the women of Delhi. Prioritizing women's safety, the Delhi government is set to launch the ‘Safe Delhi App,’ which will allow women to send an immediate distress signal to the police with just a single click during emergencies. Through this app, location details and alerts will be transmitted directly to the police control room, enabling timely intervention. This government initiative is significant not only for making women feel safer but also for strengthening the city's overall security infrastructure.

According to media reports, a trial version of the application was recently presented to the Minister in charge of the Women and Child Development Department in the capital. The app is expected to prove particularly useful for women in situations involving unsafe routes, isolated areas, and gender-based violence.

**How the Safe Delhi App Works**

**Voice Command:** If a person feels threatened, they will not need to take out their phone or touch the screen; the app will activate simply by speaking a pre-set 'voice command.'

**Live Tracking and Streaming:** Upon activation, the police control room will receive live GPS tracking of the location, along with real-time audio and video feeds.

**Instant Notifications:** In addition to alerting the police, the app will immediately send notifications to family members or trusted contacts via WhatsApp and SMS.

**Pilot Project:** A pilot project to test the app's responsiveness and capabilities has already been completed in Delhi's Central Police District.

According to media reports, the government claims that this app—designed to curb street crime, molestation, stalking, robbery, chain-snatching, incidents in isolated areas, and crimes against the elderly—will be the first of its kind in the country to transmit an SOS alert to the police in less than a second.
