Gmail Spam Issue: Millions of people worldwide use Gmail to send and receive emails. From job applications to banking alerts, OTPs, business updates, and important documents—a vast amount of crucial information is received via email. However, it often happens that important emails, instead of appearing in the inbox, land directly in the spam folder. Consequently, users fail to receive information on time and miss out on many vital updates. If you are facing this issue, there is no need to panic; this problem can be resolved by simply adjusting a few settings within Gmail.

Why Do Important Emails End Up in Spam?

The spam folder on Gmail is designed to identify suspicious and unwanted emails. However, the system sometimes mistakenly flags emails as spam even when they are actually important. This can happen if the sender is not included in your contact list, if the email has previously been marked as spam, or if your Gmail filter settings have not been configured correctly. For these reasons, emails containing information regarding jobs, banking, or other important matters may end up in the spam folder.

Removing Emails from the Spam Folder: The First Step

If an important email has landed in the spam folder, you should mark it as "Not Spam." This signals to Gmail that the email is safe, significantly reducing the likelihood of future emails from the same sender ending up in the spam folder. On a computer, open Gmail, navigate to the Spam section, select the relevant email, and click on the "Not Spam" option. Mobile users can do the same by opening the Gmail app and tapping on the "Report not spam" option.

Save Important Email Addresses to Your Contacts

Google states that Gmail considers email addresses saved by users in their contacts list to be more trustworthy. This is why it is recommended to save the email addresses of important individuals, companies, or institutions in Google Contacts. To do this, simply open Google Contacts, create a new contact entry, and save the relevant email address. This increases the likelihood that emails from these sources will appear directly in your inbox in the future.

Gmail Filters Can Provide a Permanent Solution

If emails from a specific individual or organization are repeatedly ending up in your spam folder, Gmail's filter feature can prove to be highly useful. With the help of this feature, you can set specific rules for a particular sender. To create a filter, click on the search options available within the Gmail search bar. Next, enter the relevant email address in the "From" section and select the "Create filter" option. Here, activate the "Never send it to Spam" option. Subsequently, emails from that sender will begin arriving directly in your inbox.

What Should Mobile Users Do?

Android and iPhone users can also significantly mitigate this issue by moving emails out of the spam folder and adding the sender to their contacts list. However, please note that the ability to create custom filters is currently available only through the desktop version of Gmail.
